1. Research the company

It is necessary to carefully research information before going to the interview to avoid wasting both parties' time when the two parties "don't belong together".

2. Read the Job Description carefully

There are quite a few people who just read the job title and immediately send their CV and Portfolio without carefully reading the job description. They are also recruiting “Design staff”, but some places need you to be good at Photoshop to create banners and posters, others need you to be good at Illustrator to design illustrations, print layouts, etc.

But a small note is that you should add a watermark to the sample project or just send the image in PNG (or JPEG) format with a resolution that is “enough to see”. This is to prevent some “crap” companies from borrowing the candidate’s effort to get a free design.
