The Truth Behind Veo 3 Fever: Technological Breakthrough or Recycling Old Script?

Over the past year, artificial intelligence has entered an unprecedented boom phase. From creating text, images, to music, AI has now taken a bold step forward: filmmaking. The birth of Google Veo 3, a tool capable of creating videos from just a few lines of description, has been evaluated by many experts as a “big bang” in the digital creative industry. If in the past, filmmaking required a professional crew, cameras, actors, studios, and complex post-production techniques, now anyone can “produce” a short film with near-cinematic quality in just a few minutes.

In Vietnam, the trend of making films with Veo 3 quickly became a fever. Just scrolling through TikTok, Facebook Reels or YouTube Shorts, we can easily come across a series of short videos "made by AI". What is special is that many of them have familiar colors, even somewhat humorous when the scripts that were once "specialties" of Chinese short films are recycled but transformed to suit local tastes. From the image of a "CEO" appearing next to a supercar and a luxurious meeting room, to a "countryized" version with the CEO driving on a red dirt road, meeting an ex-lover wearing a traditional Vietnamese dress in the rain, all can be created with just a few keystrokes. The rapid spread of Veo 3 raises a big question: Is this really a creative step opening a new era for the film industry, or is it just a trend of recycling old motifs, "old wine in new bottles" in the digital world?

1. When the dream of cinema is in everyone's hands

For decades, filmmaking has been a luxury, reserved only for those with large investments, specialized techniques, and connections in the industry. Film crews had to operate like a “machine” with dozens, even hundreds of people: directors, screenwriters, cameramen, actors, lighting, sound, and post-production. Each product, even if only a few minutes long, required tens or hundreds of millions of dong.

The appearance of Veo 3 has completely changed the game. Now, to create a film, you just need to enter a few lines of description: "A young man stands in the rain, watching an old car rolling away" and after a few minutes, the system will return a short video with impressive frame quality, lighting, and smooth motion, no different from a film shot by a professional camera.

This is the key point that makes Veo 3 considered a revolution in democratizing cinema. Previously, making movies was an unattainable dream for most young people. But now, the technical and financial barriers are almost eliminated. With just an idea and a little ability to describe it in words, anyone can become an “AI director”.

In Vietnam, this wave has grown extremely quickly thanks to the characteristics of the market: a large number of young users, who love new trends and have a strong ability to grasp trends. This explains why in just a few weeks, the number of AI videos on TikTok has increased exponentially, from humorous clips of everyday life to "CEO short films" with dramatic love motifs.

However, the rapid popularity of Veo 3 also brought with it a paradox: the easier it is to make films, the more similar the products become. And this is where the creative story begins to face challenges.

2. When creativity is "framed" in old patterns

It is easy to see that most of the videos created with Veo 3 in Vietnam today revolve around a few familiar motifs. The scripts are often borrowed from the “Chinese short films” that have taken social networks by storm: cold CEOs, poor girls, fateful encounters in villas, supercars or luxurious meeting rooms.

Interestingly, when “passed through” the hands of Vietnamese people, these motifs were transformed into “countryized” versions that are closer to domestic audiences. The CEO no longer steps out of a Lamborghini but sits in a pickup truck crossing a red dirt road. The female lead does not wear a gorgeous evening gown but wears a traditional Vietnamese dress, standing in the rain of her hometown. This contrast creates a humorous effect, making viewers feel both familiar and strange, easily going viral on social networks.

However, from a creative perspective, this is a sign of saturation. When the tools are too powerful, production becomes easy, young creators tend to choose the “shortest path”: recycling old motifs instead of looking for new ideas. The result is a series of similar videos appearing, differing only in the setting, costumes or a few small details.

Some viewers have begun to express their fatigue: “The videos are beautiful, but they all look the same, without any emotion.” This comment is not without basis. If traditional films focus on emotions and scripts, many current AI videos are just “glittering covers”, eye-catching images but lacking depth and message.

At this point, Veo 3 is at a crossroads: either it becomes a tool to open a new era of creativity or just a fleeting "technology trend" that explodes for a few months and then quickly fades away.

3. The democratization of content and the creative paradox

One of the most attractive points of Veo 3 is its ability to “empower” everyone. If in the past, only those with financial, technical or relationship conditions could realize their cinematic dreams, now all limits seem to be erased. Media students can experiment with scripts they write in class, a small YouTuber can make an illustration video without hiring actors, and even an ordinary person can tell their story in a cinematic style.

This “democratization” is the driving force that makes Veo 3 become a global craze. In Vietnam, this is even more evident when a series of young people who are only familiar with shooting short clips with their phones can now “upgrade” their products to a professional level. Independent content creators, small channels that have little chance of competing with large studios, now have a powerful weapon to assert themselves.

However, with opportunity comes challenge. When anyone can create a beautiful video with just a few lines of description, the difference is no longer in the visual aspect. Viewers are no longer impressed by a “cinematic” video, because hundreds, thousands of others can do the same thing. At this point, the real value can only come from the story, the emotion, and the unique creativity.

This is the biggest paradox that Veo 3 creates: the more accessible the tool, the fiercer the competition. If they cannot overcome the familiar pattern loop, many creators will soon fall into the trap of "making to keep up with the trend", with many products but lacking personality and uniqueness.

4. The future of Veo 3 in Vietnam

With the current rapid spread, it is not difficult to predict that Veo 3 will continue to explode strongly in the next few months. However, the more important question is: Can it maintain its long-term appeal, or will it quickly fall into decline?

To answer, we need to look back at the history of technology trends in Vietnam. From applications to create cartoon avatars, voice-changing applications, to AI tools to create “artistic” photos, most of them only exploded in a short time and then gradually disappeared when users felt bored. Veo 3 could also follow in that footsteps, if the product created only stops at the level of entertainment, “watching for fun” without any breakthrough in content.

On the contrary, if the young creative community knows how to exploit Veo 3 as a creative platform instead of a trend-following tool, its future will be very open. For example, an independent filmmaker can use Veo 3 to test scripts before investing in real filming. A teacher can create vivid illustrative videos for lectures. A brand can produce advertisements quickly and at low cost. When applied diversely and practically, Veo 3 will not only be a craze, but will become a tool associated with the creative life of Vietnamese people.

5. Conclusion

Veo 3 marks a major step forward for artificial intelligence in the field of cinema and content creation. It opens up the opportunity for anyone to make films, erasing the boundary between professionals and amateurs. But at the same time, this ease poses a big challenge: will humans be creative enough to turn tools into materials, or will they let it turn them into “recyclers of old motifs”?

The success of Veo 3 in Vietnam and the world in general depends not only on the quality of technology but also on the quality of human creativity. If it dares to be different and tell new stories, Veo 3 will be the catalyst that brings the digital content industry into a new era. On the contrary, if it only follows trends, it will quickly fade away like many other technology trends that have exploded and then disappeared.

And the answer to the question “Creative progress or just recycling old motifs?” ultimately lies in our own hands, the people holding the “pen” called Veo 3.
