Layer Style in Photoshop

What is Layer Style?

In professional image editing software Photoshop , you can easily change the appearance of a layer directly by simply changing its Style. For example, you can create a drop shadow effect and make it glow or create a 3D text effect. Layer Styles are very special effects in Photoshop that you can quickly and easily apply to separate layers in Photoshop to change the appearance of something in a very short time. They can be preset and customized, or will be saved and used later.

How to use layer style in photoshop

After you have the object, click on Layer -> Layer Style -> Blending Options. At this point, you will see the effects panel appear, you will have some effects available in Photoshop to edit your photos. The basic and most commonly used effects are:

Bevel & Emboss

You can easily create a 3D effect for text using the Bevel & Emboss tool. The initial effect may look a bit old-fashioned and dated, but there are many settings you can adjust to create a more subtle effect. You can also add a 3D border and texture. Use Bevel and Emboss to create a raised effect on the edge of the Layer. In the Structure section, you can customize the effects to be in or out (Style), the display type of the effect to be hard or soft (Technique), as well as the thickness and size of the effect (Depth/Size/Soften). To be able to change the direction of the light and blend the light and dark areas, you can also adjust the parameters in the Shading box. In addition, in Bevel and Emboss there are two sub-sections: Contour and Texture. Contour is used to create grooves on the effect and Texture is used to add patterns to the objects you want.

Stroke

You can use Stroke to create borders for image layers. You can adjust the border thickness and border position (inside, outside, center), transparency, color…

Inner Shadow

Use Inner Shadow to create a shadow inside the Layer. You can also adjust the angle, distance, and size of the shadow.

Inner Glow

Satin

Satin simply creates two copies of your layer, then offsets and blurs them to produce the final result. It’s a little hard to visualize, but the effect is easy to understand once you see it in action. All you need to do is set the layer’s gloss to Satin. This is great for creating effects like metallic logos on vehicles or cars.

Color, Gradient, and Pattern Overlay
 

These options allow you to easily select colors for images or text in 3 forms

: Color, Gradient and Pattern Overlay. Cover the Layer with a solid color layer with the Color Overlay effect. Cover the Layer with a Gradient layer. You can choose the drop angle, drop Style and select available Gradients or create a new Gradient for yourself.

Outer Glow

You can make your text glow with the Outer Glow effect. It creates a glow that radiates into the Layer content, and you can go even further than with the Drop shadow.

Drop Shadow
